Thiruvananthapuram: Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), HomiBhabha Road, Colaba, Mumbai-400005, has invited applications under ‘The Visiting Students' Research Programme’ (VSRP-2015) to be conducted at TIFR, Mumbai during May 11, 2015 to July 8, 2015.
VSRP is an annual summer programme conducted byTIFR, in which talented students are introduced to research activities in the areas of Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics and Physics.The selected students are expected to work on a research project under the supervision of a TIFR researcher. The programmes are held both at the Mumbai campus of the TIFR as well as at the National Centre for Radio Astrophysics, Pune during mid-May to early July each year.
Applications from motivated 1st year M.Sc, 4th year Integrated MS and M.Tech students are encouraged. Highly motivated 3rd year B.Tech students are also eligible to apply.
Participants are paid a monthly stipend of Rs 7000/-, Sleeper class return railway fare and are provided with shared hostel accommodation.

Eligibility: Physics/Chemistry:Pre-final year students of M.Sc./B.E./B.Tech.
Biology:Pre-final year students of M.Sc./B.E./B.Tech. Those doing M.Pharm., Medicine/Engineering will be also be considered.
Mathematics:Pre-final and final year students of M.A./M.Sc./M.Stat./B.Tech. Exceptionally bright pre-final and final year students of B.Sc/B.Stat/B.Math will also be considered.
Computer & Systems Sciences:Pre-final year students of B.E. / B.Tech. / M.Sc. / M.C.A. / M.E. / M.Tech.

Applicant can select up to 2 departments, and for each department, they can fill in two areas of interest from the options available in the menu. Details are given in the Information Brochure available at http://www.tifr.res.in/~vsrp/Brochures/Brochures.htm.
Applicants, before filling the online application form, should keep ready, scanned (.jpg file of size not exceeding 100kb) copy of passport size photograph of applicant. Applicant may also arrange a write-up with a maximum of 100 words, describing applicant’s interest in the most preferred field of study. This has to be given in the appropriate box while filling the application.
The write up should not contain special characters. In particular, use of equations in write-ups is strongly discouraged. Applicants will have to provide the Names, Affiliation, Designation, Contact address (both e-mail and physical address) and contact phone numbers of 2 referees who would be filling referee reports for him/her. They should be teachers or persons with whom applicants have interacted academically. The link for filling up the Referee Report Form online will be sent by email to both Referees after complete registration.
There is no cut-off GPA / % that are needed to apply for the VSRP program. The overall profile of the applicant which includes academic performance as evinced by grades/GPA, referee reports, write up submitted by the applicant, etc. are considered while making a decision.
